What is the difference between dior and chanel
Why did we select those two companies to analyse their brand strategy? When you compare some luxury brands, the established practices are to take a French brand versus an American one. However, we choose to focus on the two French one. How they run the brand in order to make consumers feel special, unique, a part of the experience.
Such as Dior was founded in by Christian Dior. The brand belongs to the LVMH group portfolio. Christian Dior had a single directive: perfume should contain floral notes.
The Chanel brand enjoys much greater awareness and popularity in these markets. Chanel and Hermes try their best to maintain an aura of "perceived rarity" for their classics, but the truth is that they are produced in very high numbers. If you look at the Hermes forum, lots of people can't get a chance to buy a Birkin, but some members have 3 or more. And then there are a lot of stories of members here finally getting their dream Birkin. In short, there are a LOT of Birkin bags out there.
There are tons on the resale websites. If this continues, the resale prices will decrease. It's the law of supply and demand as the market gets flooded with pre-owned Birkin bags. As for quality, Dior has very good quality, and about the same as LV, Fendi, and Loewe which are all under the LVMH umbrella this is based on my personal experience with these brands. There are stories on TPF about Chanel quality issues, but there is a lot more traffic on the Chanel forum which means you will hear a lot more quality issues.
Doesn't mean the brand has disproportionately more quality issues than Dior. I bet their qualities are comparable. And as phaedrana said, Dior prices are generally a bit lower than Chanel. It's strategic actually. Take the Diorama, for instance. It is so similar to the Boy Chanel, but is priced lower, and even has suede lining instead of fabric and a lighter chain to woo the customer to purchase the Dior instead of the Chanel.
So I suggest getting what you love rather than getting something based on resale value. If you love it, then you will wear it more often, and may be less likely to resell it. IMO the quality is comparable, good on both, but my Chanel is 9 years old when quality didn't appear to be as much of an issue.
Retail price for Dior is cheaper, but from what i've seen on the resale market, the sold price could be half of the original purchase price but it depends.
Resale is a gamble no matter which designer you go with. I prefer to be more cautious with high end spending and chose items that I know I will keep. Jul 14, 2, 6, I stopped buying Chanel bags end of last year after the last high price increase, got back into the game some weeks ago and already regretted it and had to return a bag with a defect and did not take a bag that was transferred for me due to several issues.
I simply do not feel Chanel quality justifies their prices, especially their seasonal bags feel cheaper and cheaper from season to season and even their classics come with torn stitches, plasticky leather and so on. What makes it worse is their ignorance paired with what DoggieBags said above. Saint Laurent died in , at the age of 71, but his legacy endures.
Saint Laurent harnessed art for his purpose. By invoking male dress codes, Saint Laurent invested women with social power while preserving their femininity. Coco Chanel called Saint Laurent her spiritual heir.
If there was ever a designer that was a one-hit wonder, it was Christian Dior. It was a new outlook, the trappings of a new lifestyle. It could all have been very different.
Born in France in and brought up in Normandy, Dior moved with his parents to Paris when he was He wished to study architecture, but his father pressed him to study political science.
Dior then served in the armed forces. In due course he opened a small art gallery and in the years he ran it he showed works by Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau and Max Jacob. The designer Robert Piguet hired him in During the Second World War, Dior served in the south of France, then returned to Paris in and worked for Lucien Lelong in a much larger design house.
Lelong was a phenomenon, a man credited with keeping la couture in France and out of the grasping hands of the German occupiers during the war.
Lelong employed Dior, Pierre Balmain and Hubert de Givenchy before their names became famous globally. He left in to set up his own house with the backing of textile manufacturer Marcel Boussac. Gruau continued to draw for Dior for the rest of the 20th century.
Dior helped restore beleaguered post-war Paris as the capital of fashion. Each of his collections had a theme. The spring collection was called Carolle or Figure 8 — the latter suggesting the silhouette of the New Look, with its prominent shoulders, accentuated hips and small waist. The spring collection was dubbed Tulip, and featured an abundance of floaty, flowery prints. In his final collections, Dior felt the need for a more limber silhouette and lifestyle, and designed narrow tunics and sari-like wraps.
What was game-changing was not just his designs, but also the way he approached his business. With his partner Jacques Rouet, Dior pioneered licence agreements in the world of fashion. By he had done lucrative licensing deals for furs, stockings and perfumes, which not only generated revenue but also made him a household name.
Dior designed under his own name for only a decade, but his influence and methods still pervade fashion. The media outrage and T-shirts obscured the first-rate relations between the Saint Laurent house and Slimane, which have prevailed since the day he joined it.
Within a year, Slimane had become head menswear designer. Slimane and Lagerfeld have been close friends since. Slimane was lured back to Yves Saint Laurent in
