Should i reinforce drake sword

While this was definitely intended as a noob bait weapon, in the hands of good player it can be very useful in the early levels of the game. After Parrish is generally when one should move on from it. A friend spoilered me, telling me how to get it I am a little sad about how this changed my game experience as i never really went into upgrading any other weapons Why people hate this weapon? It's perfectly suitable weapon for early game dealing damage.

Personally I find this a great weapon for Parish and Depths, it allows me to put some levels into Vitality and Endurance early. Maybe it's the sloooow cheesing with bow people hate? There's no need for that, you can get the tail reliably with Gold Resin and fast weapon Axe, Uchi and many other works. Noobs:bought arrows and bow and cut dragons tail for sword Me:killed black knight with 8 humanities and get the sword then on shot the Taurus demon.

Doesn't really matter to me, I will probably end up using both. I have a lvl 60 invasion build and invaded somebody in painted world. But well. These guys made Dark Souls. I don't think mercy is a big part of their vocabulary. A more cynical person may look at the design of the Drake Sword and think it's a trap. A weapon designed to encourage laziness and overconfidence in the uninitiated. A weapon that is paced juuust right to fail the player once they've made it past a threshold where the thought of backtracking is almost unbearable.

In a mean twist of fate, Anor Londo where the Drake Sword really starts crapping out on you is accessed through magical means after a gruelling trek through Sen's Fortress. Nobody, and I mean nobody, relishes the thought of taking another trip through the Funhouse torture castle and whatever they've completed of Anor Londo to get back to the blacksmith and try and figure out a new weapon. In fact, many players might not even know you can backtrack at that point.

I imagine most would rather just roll up a new character or break the disc in two and burn the shatter remains. Is this a fair interpretation of From Software's intentions? Would they really troll players like that? I don't know. On one hand it implies a deep level of maliciousness on their part, but on the other hand they made the Tomb of the Giants.

Whatever the reasoning From Software had behind the Drake Sword, it probably doesn't matter to all the poor Undeads I've seen struggling through every single inch of Anor Londo with it.

They've fallen into the Drake Sword trap and their only possible escape is learning how the upgrading system really works. Hopefully after reading this guide you won't fall into the same trap. Know your options and be bold experimenting with other weapons. You've got nothing to lose and so much fun and power to gain! Ristretto 8 Mar, am. If you're looking for an early game weapon that will decimate everything and can still be viable later, look no further than the Gravelord Greatsword.

From the moment you reach Firelink Shrine, you can whiz your way through the Catacombs, join the Gravylords and acquire this beast of a weapon. It's good in speedruns early game but that's about it. You can aggro hellkite and use resin to chop off tail in 3 hits. Makes quick work of Gargoyles. The only time it's viable after that is if you moveswap it with an estoc. Otherwise it's painful to use. AnKalameet 12 May, pm.

I've noticed a lot of people commenting on this saying that they switched to a different weapon, and almost all of them saying either a black knight weapon, the zwei, or the claymore or halberd. This is just another crutch. It's fine if your playstyle is geared to just smashing things into the ground, but everyone needs to realize that literally ANY weapon is viable so long as it's upgraded properly. The most important thing, really, is finding a playstyle you like--being quick and fast, slow and tanky, somewhere in between, whatever it is, that's the most important thing.

From there, you can find a weapon with a moveset that fits that style and upgrade it accordingly, while leveling yourself to fit its scaling.

I feel like all the people saying "thanks, I switched out to the BKGS" are just falling for another trap that shuts off whole parts of the game, with the only difference being that the BKGS can be incredibly powerful and thus more viable for less-skilled players.

Seth Abercromby 11 May, am. Absolutely agree on the part of figuring out your own style. The original design ended up kinda sub-optimal for PvP, but I still won a fair share of my duels. Currently working on a improved build that doesn't waste as many points in Int everything you get after the 36 points for Soul Spear is kinda meh for PvP. And whenever I roll up a new character, I'm always surprised by how quickly we can repress our memories of Sen's Fortress. If only players didn't ignore my friend invite I would link them to this guide.

Rated it up in hopes more people see it. SundownKid 11 Apr, pm. You made a bit of an error in the amount of titanite shards required for upgrading. It's 9 shards, not 10 shards. A bit pedantic, but you've got the hyperlink as Richard's Rapier rather than Ricard's. Great guide all in all though. KioDGoon 9 Feb, am. I'm lvl 40 using a crystal greatsword get rakt. Jimmidyjimjam View Profile View Posts. It seems like experienced DS players advise the claymore more than the drake sword because it has greater potential since it ends up being stronger after upgrading it.

How much do I need to upgrade for it to be worth it and why wouldn't upgrading the drake sword be better? Showing 1 - 5 of 5 comments.

If you open a weapon detail screen, you'll see a section named 'Param Bonus', which is what commonly known as 'Scaling' Last edited by LarsenB ; 23 Jul, am. Try to hit something first to even apply this "high" dmg hich is lower as it seems cause scaling.
